Field Hockey Defeats Rhode Island, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team defeated Rhode Island, 5-2,

in an Atlantic 10 match up October 15 at Geasey Field.

Senior Julie Martinez (Upper Moreland, Pa./Upper Moreland) began the

scoring frenzy for the Owls with an unassisted goal with 27:12 left in

the first half. Rhode Islands Kelley Barnowski responded with a goal to

keep the score tied at the half.

Temple came out of the half with an enormous amount of energy. Senior

Jill Polmateer (St. Johnsville, N.Y./Johnstown) kicked off the second

half with a goal with 25:25 left to play. Senior Kacy Ziomek (Sweet

Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) added a goal with 13:16 remaining in the game.

Martinez struck again with 2:10 remaining to make the score 4-2 in favor

of the Owls. Temple senior Jessica Jaworski (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern)

finalized the scoring drive for the Owls with 1:00 left in the game.

Barnowski scored again with 31:58 left in the game for Rhode Island.

The Owls will next be in action at home on Wednesday, Oct. 18 against

Rutgers at 3:30 p.m. It will be their last home game of the season.
