Owls Face Former Scoring Leader In Exhibition Opener November 5
11.2.00 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA (November 2) - Coach John Chaney's 2000-01 Temple basketball team will
be in action for the first time Sunday, as the Owls host their first
exhibition game against the California East All-Stars, beginning at 4:00
p.m. in the Liacouras Center.
Mark Karcher, who led the Owls in scoring with a 15.8 points per game
average as a junior last season, is among the players on the California
East All-Stars roster. Following the 1999-2000 season, Karcher declared
himself eligible for the NBA draft, thus ending his eligibility for
further participation in the Temple program. Subsequently, he was
drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers, but failed to
earn a roster position in the team's preseason camp.
The Owls return two starters and two additional who saw extensive
action with last year's 27-6 team, which won the Atlantic 10 Conference
championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Those players include returning starters senior guard Quincy Wadley and
junior forward Kevin Lyde along with junior guard Lynn Greer and junior
center Ron Rollerson.
Temple will conclude the exhibition portion of its schedule next
Wednesday (Nov. 8), when the Owls play the London Leopards at the
Liacouras Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be the second
game of a doubleheader with the Temple women's team, which will open its
exhibition schedule against an international club team from Norway at
5:00 p.m.
