NEW YORK (November 23) -- Coach John Chaney's undefeated and 25th-ranked Temple
University basketball team will meet the nation's No. 1-ranked team in
the championship final of the TiVo Preseason National Invitation
Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday (Nov.
24), beginning at 9:00 p.m. eastern time. The game will be televised
live nationally by ESPN.
Temple (4-0), advanced to the championship round with a 69-61
semifinal-round victory over previously unbeaten Indiana on Wednesday.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski's Duke Blue Devils gained the championship berth
with a 95-69 drubbing of Texas.
Both the Temple and Duke programs are making their fourth
appearances in the PNIT. Duke won the inaugural tournament championship
in 1985, while Temple has qualified for its first-ever championship
final in the prestigious competition.
The same teams are scheduled to meet again just eight days later, as
the Owls host Duke at the First Union Center in Philadelphia on Dec. 2.
That game also will be telecast live nationally on ESPN and is scheduled
for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
