PHILADELPHIA - Looking to get back on the winning track after three straight losses, Coach John Chaney's Temple University
basketball team travels cross town for its first Philadelphia Big 5 encounter of the 2000-01 season at Villanova. The game will be
played on the Villanova campus at the 6,500-seat Pavillion and will be televised live in the Delaware Valley by Comcast SportsNet.
Temple (4-3), has seen the luster wear off a promising 4-0 start, having dropped three consecutive contests. Two of the losses
were at the hands of the nation's No.1-ranked team, Duke. After playing the Blue Devils tough in the TiVo Preseason NIT final at
Madison Square Garden on Nov. 25 --a 63-61 decision-- the Owls were defeated soundly, 93-68, in a rematch at the First Union
Center this past Saturday. Sandwiched between was a disappointing 66-58 road loss at Miami of Ohio.
Coached by Steve Lappas, Villanova (3-1) comes into the game off back-to-back wins, having defeated Towson, 87-75, at home
on Nov. 26 and Columbia, 80-64, at home on Dec. 2. The Wildcats' lone loss in the new season was a 98-85 decision at Duke in
the second round of the PNIT.
