PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Lynn Greer scored 18 points and No. 21 Temple

held Rhode Island to two field goals in the first half in a 74-40 victory

Saturday, the Owls' seventh straight win.

Temple (16-4, 9-1 Atlantic 10) has held each of the opponents in the winning streak to 50 points or

less. The Owls lead the nation in scoring defense (53.5) and are second in field-goal defense (35.1).

The Owls led 36-9 at halftime as the Rams (5-17, 2-7) went 2-for-20 from the field. Their first field

goal was a breakaway layup by Zach Marbury 2:36 in, the second a rebound dunk by Tavorris Bell

with 4:45 left.

Temple's biggest lead was 68-33 with 3:31 left on a 3-pointer by Greer.

The loss was Rhode Island's fifth straight _ by an average margin of 30.4 points _ and 15th in 17

games. The 40 points were the fewest scored since a 35-32 loss to Connecticut late in the 1969-70

season.

Temple won the earlier meeting with Rhode Island 88-45.

Greer was 7-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range, as the Owls shot 52 percent

(27-for-52) overall and 46 percent (12-for-26) from beyond the arc.

Mark Karcher and Quincy Wadley each had 15 points for Temple, while Pepe Sanchez had two

points and eight assists.

Bell finished with 13 points for the Rams, who finished 15-for-44 from the field (34 percent).
