PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Temple center Kevin Lyde was suspended Friday
while the university investigates possible NCAA rules violations.
At issue is whether Lyde's family or his AAU coach paid for a high school
summer course he took in 1997.
''Immediately upon receiving a phone call from a Washington Post reporter
early Thursday evening, March 2, Temple began an investigation,'' athletic
director Dave O'Brien said Friday in a statement. ''We immediately
reached out to the NCAA and the Atlantic 10 Conference, and have
engaged an outside law firm specializing in NCAA matters to get all the
facts and put this matter to rest.''
The school said Lyde would miss Saturday's game against George
Washington, the regular-season finale for No. 5 Temple
Lyde, a native of Washington, D.C., came to Temple as a freshman in
1998 out of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. He has started 24 games this
season for Temple (22-5).
