Owls Open Atlantic 10 Schedule At La Salle
1.3.01 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA (January 3) - Coach John Chaney's Temple basketball team begins
playing for keeps January 4, as the Owls visit crosstown-rival La Salle in
the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams. The game is set for an
8:00 p.m. tip off and will be televised live locally by Comcast
SportsNet.
Temple (6-7) appears to have righted its ship, coming off a 74-60 win
at Penn, its second straight following a 73-46 win over Cleveland State
at home on Dec. 23. The two wins ended a seven-game losing streak
between Nov. 24 and Dec. 21 that was the longest of Chaney's tenure at
Temple. The win at Penn was highlighted by David Hawkins' career-high
23-point performance. Hawkins connected on 9-of-23 shots from the field,
including a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range. The Owls also
received strong outings from junior forward Kevin Lyde, who recorded his
fifth double-double of the season (15 points, 10 rebounds) and junior
guard Lynn Greer, who scored 18 points and passed for eight assists.
Under 15th-year head coach Speedy Morris, La Salle brings a 6-5 record
into the game, having split with Lafayette (an 81-78 win) and Cal (an
81-59 loss) at the Golden Bear Classic last week in Berkeley.
