PHILADELPHIA - Temple basketball players present (Lynn Greer and David
Hawkins) and past (Aaron McKie and Marc Jackson) have earned praise from
their various playing associations concurrently, a tremendous tribute to
Head Coach John Chaney's program.
Junior guard Lynn Greer, currently the Owls' leader in scoring (16.4
ppg), assists (4.9 apg), free-throw shooting (43-51, .843) and minutes
played (39.5 mpg), was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week
on Monday. Greer scored 18 points, passed for eight assists, made four
steals and blocked a shot in the Owls' 74-60 win over Pennsylvania this
past Friday. A Philadelphia native, Greer is a 1997 graduate of
Engineering and Science High School.

Freshman winger David Hawkins, who finished with career highs in both
points (23) and rebounds (7) against Penn, was named the Atlantic 10
Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Hawkins, a 6-4, 215-pound
product of Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C., has
appeared in each of the Owls' 13 games and started the last five. He
currently ranks third on the team in both scoring (11.1 ppg) and
rebounding (4.5 rpg).

Philadelphia 76ers guard Aaron McKie was named the NBA Player of the
Week (for the week of Dec. 25-31) after leading his team to successive
road victories at Utah, Golden State and Sacramento. In those games,
McKie averaged 22.3 points and the Sixers' win at Sacramento returned
the NBA's best record to Philadelphia. McKie, who played at Temple under
Coach Chaney between 1992 and 1994, was named the Atlantic 10 Conference
Player of the Year for the 1992-93 season.

Golden State Warriors forward Marc Jackson was named the Schick Rookie
of the Month for his outstanding performance in December. Jackson led
all NBA rookies in scoring (15.3 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg), field goal
shooting percentage (.538) and minutes played (34.4 mpg) over the past
month. A Philadelphia product out of Roman Catholic High School, Jackson
played for Coach Chaney at Temple between 1995 and 1997. He was named
the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year for the 1996-97 campaign,
his final year with the Owls.
