PHILADELPHIA (Jan. 31) - Nearing the midpoint of the 16-game Atlantic 10
Conference schedule, Coach John Chaney's Temple University basketball
team travels to Pittsburgh for an important encounter with Duquesne on
Feb. 1. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at the 6,200-seat
A.J. Palumbo Center and will be covered live by the Temple Sports Radio
Network (WZZD AM-990 and WRTI FM-90.1 in Philadelphia).
In addition to keeping in touch with the Atlantic 10 Conference
leaders, Temple (11-10, 5-2) is in a position where every game is
crucial if the Owls are to extend an 11-year string of NCAA Tournament
appearances. Temple comes off a 65-64 home loss in overtime to
Massachusetts last Saturday, the team's third loss in its past four
games. In a very un-Temple-like performance, the Owls missed 10 foul
shots, were out-rebounded 36-31 and managed just 43 field goal attempts
to UMass's 58.
Under second-year Head Coach Darrelle Porter, Duquesne (7-13, 1-6) has
lost seven of its last eight. Currently, the Dukes are struggling
through a four-game streak of Atlantic 10 Conference losses, including
an 81-48 pasting by visiting Xavier in their latest outing last
Saturday.
