The winningest basketball coach in Temple University history as measured by both total number wins and winning percentage (431-197, .707).
Coaching a total of 15 twenty-win seasons, including a current streak of six (1996-2001).
Winning 23 NCAA games and advancing to the regional finals five times (1988, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2001).
Winning a remarkable 25 or more games over a five-year stretch from 1983-1988, compiling a record of 143 wins and just 23 losses during that time.
Winning or sharing 13 Philadelphia Big Five championships.
During his induction speech, Chaney mentioned a number of individuals and stated that when he looks at faces he sees fond memories. He recognized John Thompson, who presented Coach Chaney, as a special mentor, along with others that have crossed his path, including individuals from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida and Cheney State University outside of Philadelphia.
For John Chaney, his wife Jeanne, his daughter Pamela, sons John and Darryl and his four grandchildren, it was a night to forever remember.
