"TEMPLE 2BALL" HIGHLIGHTS MORNING MADNESS OCTOBER 16

10.8.01 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA -- The excitement of Morning Madness, Temple's version of Midnight Madness, will offer a sneak peek at the upcoming basketball season and tips off at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, October 16, 2001. For the first time, the men's and women's team will participate together in a shooting exhibition called "Temple 2 Ball" patterned after the event made popular at the NBA All-Star Weekend.

At other campuses around the nation this event takes place at midnight but the Temple version is held in the early morning hours to coincide with the Owls' pre-dawn practices. Head coach John Chaney, who will be inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame October 5, will preview this year's team including All-America candidates Lynn Greer and Kevin Lyde. Morning Madness also will include a first look at the Temple women's basketball team and its renowned head coach, Dawn Staley. Temple students traditionally camp out the night before Morning Madness for the right to get the best season tickets available. The event runs from 6:00-9:00 AM and will feature prizes and giveaways including free coffee and doughnuts.
