MEN'S BASKETBALL EASES PAST EZBONDS, 84-66
11.5.01 | Men's Basketball
Temple displayed a blend of experienced veterans and promising newcomers while rolling to a commanding 45-26 halftime lead. Returning All-Atlantic 10 Conference guard and John Wooden Award-candidate Lynn Greer shared the scoring lead with returning starter Alex Wesby, each finished with 18 points. Greer also passed for a team-high seven assists and had two steals. Senior center Kevin Lyde added 12 points and team-highs of nine rebounds and three blocks. Freshman guard Nile Murry made the start and tallied 10 points in his Temple debut. Veteran power forward Ron Rollerson (five points) was the Owls' lone starter to finish without a double-figure scoring total, but he grabbed eight rebounds and added two shot blocks.
Key bench personnel for Temple included first-year senior guard Jay Jameson with nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance from beyond the three-point arc, and first-year sophomore guard Brian Polk, who scored seven points. Freshman power-forward Glen Elliott scored two points, grabbed two rebounds, had a shot block and two steals in 16 minutes of court time.
For the game, the Owls shot a healthy 47.6 percent from the field, but committed an un-Temple-like 14 turnovers and were out-rebounded 41-36. The Owls converted 19 Easybonds turnovers --including 13 steals-- into 25 points. Guard Braith Cox paced the visitors with 20 points.
