#16/17 TEMPLE OPENS 2001-02 CAMPAIGN VS. #5/6 FLORIDA IN COACHES vs. CANCER IKON CLASSIC

Philadelphia - The Temple Owls, led by Naismith Hall of Fame coach, John Chaney, venture to "the world's most famous sports arena"- New York City's Madison Square Garden - to do battle in a rematch of last year's second round NCAA Tournament game against the Florida Gators, in the first of two games in the 2001 Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the finals against the winner of the Maryland-Arizona game, which follows at 9:00 p.m. The championship game is set for tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. (ESPN), following a consolation game beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ESPN2).

The Owls defeated Florida in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament winning handily, 75-54.
