Temple Earns No. 11 Seed In South Region, Will Face Texas

PHILADELPHIA (Mar. 12) -- Fresh from cutting the nets at the Atlantic 10
Conference Championship, Coach John Chaney's Temple University
basketball team moves on to the NCAA Tournament for a 12th consecutive
year, where the Owls, seeded No. 11 in the South Region, will face Big
12 Conference runner-up and No. 6-seed Texas at the Louisiana Superdome
in New Orleans on Friday. The game is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m.
(Eastern) tip-off and will be televised live in Philadelphia by CBS
affiliate KYW (Channel 3), as well as broadcast on Temple Radio WRTI
(90.1 FM).
Temple (21-12) earned its' way into the national tournament by winning
a conference-record sixth A-10 Tournament crown with a 76-65 victory
over Massachusetts in the championship final this past Saturday. Junior
guard Lynn Greer, who averaged 22 points and seven assists over the
three-game competition, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding
Player. He was joined on the all-tourney team by senior guard Quincy
Wadley (20.7 ppg) and junior center Kevin Lyde (14.3 ppg, 9.6 rpg). The
Owls enter the NCAAs riding a seven-game win streak, their longest of
the season.
Texas (25-8), which joined Temple in New York City for the Preseason
NIT final four back in November, comes off a 54-45 loss to Oklahoma in
the Big 12 Tournament final. Under third-year head coach Rick Barnes,
the Longhorns won their previous eight games, including conference
tournament victories over Oklahoma State (55-54) and Baylor (76-62).
