Five Temple Cagers Honored by Atlantic 10 Conference

PHILADELPHIA - The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its 2000-01

season men's basketball honors, and five members of the Temple

University team were among the recipients. Owls honored by the

conference included junior guard Lynn Greer, junior center Kevin Lyde,

senior guard Quincy Wadley, freshman forward David Hawkins and senior

forward Mamadou Cellou Barry.

Greer, who was honored as the A-10's "Sixth Man of the Year" in the

1999-2000 season, earned a spot on the all-conference first team, in

addition to being named to the five-player Atlantic 10 all-defensive

team. Through 30 games, Greer leads the Owls in scoring (17.6 ppg),

assists (160), steals (63), three-point field goal percentage (.389),

free throws (109) and free-throw percentage (.826). He led the Atlantic

10 Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.62) was second among league

players in three-point field goal percentage and steals, fourth in

assists and ninth in scoring. He leads the nation in minutes played with

1,192 of a possible 1,210, made 30 starts and went the distance in

23-of-30 games. During the season he joined the Temple 1,000-point club,

while becoming the 32nd Temple player of all time to score 500 or more

points in a single season. Greer was named the A-10 Player of the Week

(Nov. 13) and was twice honored as the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the

Week (Dec. 26, Jan. 2).

Lyde was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference second team, having

led the Owls in rebounding (9.0 rpg), shot blocks (58) and field-goal

shooting percentage (154-305, .505). Through the end of the regular

season, he is the national leader in offensive rebounds with a total of

130 in 29 appearances, an average of 4.5 per game. For the season, he

registered 12 double-doubles (points-rebounds) and career scoring highs

of 27 points (vs. Fordham on Jan. 23) and 15 rebounds (vs. Cleveland

State on Dec. 23 and St. Joseph's on Feb. 13).

Wadley, who earned the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Most

Outstanding Player award as the Owls won the championship last year, was

named to the all-conference third team. He is the Owls' No. 2 scorer

behind Greer with a 14.2 points-per-game average, is second on the team

in assists (63), average minutes played (37.0), three-point field goal

percentage (.352, 63-197) and free-throw percentage (.705, 67-95).

Wadley finished with double-figure scoring totals in 19-of-26 games,

including 15 of the Owls' last 17 outings.

Hawkins was named to the A-10 All-Rookie team, after registering 19

starts in 30 appearances, averaging 10.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per

game. He finished the regular season with 19 double-figure scoring games

and was twice named the A-10 Rookie of the Week (Jan. 1 and Jan. 22).

Barry earned recognition on the A-10 Conference all-academic team for a

second-straight year. A finance major who will graduate in May after

only three years at Temple, Barry has produced a cumulative grade point

average of 3.31 and played a total of 72 minutes in 15 appearances for

the Owls. He played a key role in Temple's crucial 92-88 overtime win at

George Washington this past Saturday, scoring six-points, hauling down

three-rebounds and passing for two assists in a nine-minute appearance.

Temple, the No. 3 seed, opens in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic

10 Conference Tournament at the First Union Spectrum on Thursday (Mar.

8) at 7:00 p.m. versus the winner of tonight's Dayton-Rhode Island game.
