PHILADELPHIA - Coach John Chaney’s Temple University basketball team
will play a short-term rematch with George Washington on Friday, in the
semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament at the First
Union Spectrum. The game will be televised live by the A-10 Network,
including CN8 in the Delaware Valley.
Temple (19-12), the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semis with a 76-63 win
over sixth-seeded Dayton on Thursday. In that game, the Owls shot a
blistering 54.2 percent from the field, including 57.1 percent from
three-point range. The performance bettered Temple’s season percentages
by 11.9 and 22.7 points, respectively. Senior guard Quincy Wadley paced
the Owls with 23 points; backcourt-mate Lynn Greer added 22.
George Washington (13-17), the No. 7 seed, advanced to the semifinal
round by stunning second-seeded Xavier, 83-74. Under Tom Penders, the
Colonials’ surprising victory ended a three-game losing streak, which
included a 92-88 overtime loss to Temple last Saturday in the
regular-season final for both teams. George Washington also lost to the
Owls on Feb. 8 in Philadelphia, 91-58.
