Temple to Meet Florida in the 2001 IKON Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

The match-ups for the 2001 IKON Classic college basketball tournament to be played at Madison Square Garden in New York have been announced by The Gazelle Group.

In the opener to be played on Thursday, November 8th, TEMPLE will take on Florida at 6:30 pm EST (ESPN2), in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament second round game which was played in the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Owls, with four starters in double-figures, rolled to an impressive 75-54 win over the Gators. Senior Quincy Wadley led the way with 24 points, followed by Lynn Greer with 20. Alex Wesby chipped in with 13 points and center Kevin Lyde added 11. Temple took control early on and coasted after leading 45-25 at halftime.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Arizona will take on Maryland (ESPN2), approximately one-half hour following completion of the first game.

The doubleheader Friday night will tipoff with the Consolation Game at 6:30 pm EST (ESPN2), followed by the Championship Game (ESPN), once again approximately one-half hour following the first game.

Since 1996, the IKON Classic, produced by The Gazelle Group based out of Princeton, New Jersey, has raised over $1,500,000. for the American Cancer Society and its Coaches vs. Cancer program.
