LYNN GREER SCORES 11 IN USA OPENING ROUND WIN AGAINST IRAN

Temple's Lynn Greer contributed 11 points in USA's 112-50 opening round
victory over Iran in the 2001 World University Games. Greer played 24
minutes, which was the second most on the team, behind only Antwain
Barbour's (Wabash Valley/Elizabethtown, Ky.) 27 minutes. Lonny Baxter
(Maryland/Silver Spring, Md.) led the USA with 27 points and nine rebounds.
USA sprinted out to a 33-13 first quarter lead and extended that lead to
55-19 at the half. Every USA player scored in the contest as the USA shot an
even 50 percent from the field (42-84) while holding Iran to a frigid 31.1
percent. The United States dominated in every category, outrebounding Iran
55-29, while forcing 16 turnovers on 11 steals.
With the win, the United States improved its winning streak at the World
University Games to 41, dating back to the 1989. Up next for team USA will
be South Africa on August 23rd.
