TEMPLE EDGES LEHIGH IN FIELD HOCKEY OPENER

Temple' s field hockey squad (1-0) got off to a good start opening their 2001 season with a 2-1 victory over Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. in a non-league match-up.

The Owls exploded out of the gate, with senior co-captain Juliann Leskiw (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) netting their first goal only 2:46 into the game. Temple came right back as senior transfer Joann Engestrom (Middletown, Md/Towson Univ.) scored her first goal as a Temple Owl less than a minute later to put the visitors up, 2-0.

In the second half, Lehigh would cut the deficit in half when Jenny Lehman scored at 44:31, but that would be the only goal allowed by senior net minder April Herman (Lancaster, Pa/Conestoga Valley), who came up with seven saves to preserve the Owls victory.

The Lady Owls return for their season opener on Saturday, September 1st versus Ursinus at 12:00 noon and follow that up with a noon contest the next day against William & Mary. Both games will be played at Temple's Geasy Field.
