Field Hockey: Owls Edge Bears To Remain Undefeated

-- Temple defeated the Maine Bears 4-3 in overtime in the first game of the Temple Invitational at Geasey Field. The win raises the Owls' record to 4-0 and the loss drops Maine's record to 1-2.

Temple advances to the Championship game on Sunday at 1p.m. The will face the winner of the second game between North Carolina and Michigan.

The Owls senior co-captain Juliann Leskiw scored two first half goals to pace Temple to a 2-0 lead. The Owls took a commanding 3-1 in the second half on a goal by sophomore susan Nase.

Maine responded late in the second half with two consecutive goals on penalty corners by junior midfielder Jen Johnstone at 8:50 and again a minute and two seconds later to tie the score at three.

The Owls' freshman forward Andrea Duva scored the game-winning goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Melissa Decesaris at the 8:17 mark of overtime.

Temple senior goalkeeper April Herman posted nine saves, four of them in the overtime to preserve the win for the Owls. Maine's goalkeeper Jerrell Lance recorded ten saves.
