TEMPLE FIELD HOCKEY BOWERS POWER OWLS PAST RHODE ISLAND 4-2

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple field hockey team kept its Atlantic 10 Conference tournament hopes alive with a 4-2 conference win over Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field.

Temple (8-8, 1-2 A-10) was led by redshirt freshman Caitlyn Bowers (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal), who scored scored two goals. Rhode Island (1-14, 1-2) also had a two-goal scorer in Rebecca Roman.

Senior co-captain Virginia Gonzalez (Reading, Pa./Twin Valley) and junior Haley Dervinis (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West)each scored a goal and added an assist for the Owls.

Bowers scored on an assist from Dervinis tying the game at 1-1 with 14:23 remaining in the first half. Dervinis put the Owls ahead for good with 16.7 seconds remaining in the first half on an unassisted goal.

Gonzalez added a goal on an assist from junior Susan Nase(Reading, Pa./Exter Twp.) with 27:27 remaining. Bowers added her second goal 18 seconds after the Rams narrowed the lead to 3-2, sealing the win for Temple.

"We had a good week of practice" said Bowers after scoring the first two goals of her career. Temple goalie Erin Conroy (Centereach, NY,/Centereach) had two saves and improved her record to 6-7 overall. Rhode Island goalie Danielle Dangoia recorded 8 saves.

Temple will host UMass (3-15, 3-1) on Sunday (Oct. 27)in a key Atlantic 10 match up at Geasey Field at 12 noon.
