The Owls opened up an early 12-2 lead thanks to a pair of layups by freshmen Keith Butler (West Medford, Ma/Philadelphia Christian Academy) and Maurice Collins (Philadelphia, Pa/Simon Gratz) and four more points by Butler on a pair of free throws and a dunk off a steal by junior David Hawkins (Washington, DC/Archbishop Carroll). Temple led until the 9:41 mark when Issac Harmon scored two of his nine first half points off the bench to give EA Sports a 21-20 lead. The visitors upped their lead to seven before the Owls closed the margin to 38-36 at the half thanks to a 5-1 run in the last 1:40 before intermission.
The Owls were led by Hawkings with 10 first half points while senior Alex Wesby (Philadelphia, Pa/Ben Franklin) added nine points. Fred Vinson, who played his collegiate career at Georgia Tech, led EA Sports with 12 points. The Owls were just 6-for-14 from the charity stripe at intermission.
In the second half, EA Sports opened up a 64-52 lead with 8:14 left before the Owls mounted a comeback to put the game into overtime. Temple took a short-lived 67-66 lead on two free throws by Hawkins with 4:42 left and held a 70-66 lead with 4:01 remaining but went scoreless the rest of the way.
In overtime, Temple took a thre-point lead following a three-point basket by Collins but EA Sports went on a 6-0 run to break the game open.
The Owls begin their regular season on Sunday, November 24th at home when they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at The Liacouras Center at 3:30 p.m.
