Washington, D.C. - The Temple volleyball team (26-6, 13-1 A-10) defeated American University (26-7, 14-0 Patriot League) 3-0 in what amounted to a tune-up for both teams for the NCAA Tournament. The game scores were 30-21, 32-30 and 31-29.
Junior outside hitter Margaret Majewska led the Owls with 13 kills while fellow juniors Liu Shu (11 kills) and Yamit Haba (10 kills, 12 digs) also shined for Temple. Sophomore setter Alison Runk had a match-high 43 assists for the Owls.
Karla Kucerkova led American with 14 kills. Cutrina Buddulph (11 kills) and Natacha Cornaz (11 kills) also posted double-digit kill numbers for American.
Temple now awaits its travel plans for the first round of the NCAA Tournament as volleyball's version of Selection Sunday takes place on December 1 and the Owls as winners of the Atlantic 10 Championship have earned an automatic bid.
