OWLS CONTINUE "CAROLINAS CARAVAN" ON MONDAY EVENING VERSUS THE GAMECOCKS
12.2.02 | Men's Basketball
For the first time on North Broad Street, Chaney has three true freshmen in the starting lineup in forward Antwayne Robinson, guard Maurice Collins and center Keith Butler. Only once before under Chaney has Temple started three first-year players, which happened during the 1996-97 season when freshmen Pepe Sanchez and Lamont Barnes started along side first-year sophomore Rasheed Brokenborough to help lead TU to a 20-11 record and an NCAA Tournament berth.
The Owls are coming off a 83-76 loss to Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons out-rebounded the Owls 51-36 and had three players register double-doubles. David Hawkins scored a game high 20 points to pace Temple and Alex Wesby contributed a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
South Carolina is a perfect 3-0 after three straight home victories, including a 71-56 win over Appalachian State last Saturday night. Senior guard Chuck Eidson has led the Gamecocks in scoring in all of their games and boasts a 20.0 ppg. scoring average.
Temple's 0-2 start is its second in as many years. The worst start under Chaney was a 0-3 mark at the beginning of the 1988-89 campaign.
