Temple (0-4) seeks its first win of the season when they meet Ivy League member Penn (1-2) in a Big Five city series contest at the Palestra Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. The Owls are off to their worst start in the program's 107-year history and are in the midst of six straight road contests, a school record for consecutive regular season away games.

For the first time on North Broad Street, Head Coach John Chaney has three true freshmen in the starting lineup in forward Antwayne Robinson, guard Maurice Collins and center Keith Butler. Only once before under Chaney has Temple started three first-year players, which happened during the 1996-97 season when freshmen Pepe Sanchez and Lamont Barnes started along side first-year sophomore Rasheed Brokenborough to help lead TU to a 20-11 record and an NCAA Tournament berth.

The Owls are coming off a 91-80 loss at Charlotte in a game in which Temple tied a school record with 19 three-pointers (vs. George Washington, 3/14/92) and set the mark for shots taken from behind the arc with 40 (38 vs. Rutgers, 2/1/91). The Owls led 38-35 at the midpoint, their first halftime lead of the season, but the 49ers shot 56.7 percent (17-30) after the break, including 62.5 percent (10-16) from three-point range to earn the win. Once again, rebounding contributed to the defeat. The 49ers cleaned the glass 41 times, while the Owls grabbed 31 rebounds. Maurice Collins and David Hawkins each scored 19 points to pace the Cherry & White in the scoring column.

The Charlotte loss was the third in four days for TU, after defeats at Wake Forest and South Carolina.

Penn is 1-2 after a 60-59 loss at Delaware Tuesday night. Koko Archibong and Ugonna Onyekwe scored 18 points and 16 points, respectively, for the Quakers. Onyekwe leads Penn in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.3 points and 7.0 boards per game.
