PAIR OF INCOMING FRESHMEN LEAD SONNY HILL LEAGUE TEAM TO CHAMPIONSHIP

8.14.02 | Men's Basketball

Incoming freshmen Maurice Collins (Philadelphia, Pa/Simon Gratz) and Antywane Robinson (Charlotte, NC/Oak Hill Academy) led Pep Boys to a thrilling 78-76 win in the championship game of the Hank Gathers College League last night in McGonigle Hall.

Collins, who collected the Most Valuable Player Award, led Pep Boys with 24 points while Robinson added 16 points.

However, it was teammate Raheem Scott's basket with six-seconds left that lifted Pep Boys to the victory.

Head Coach John Chaney has already expressed high hopes for Collins this upcoming season and hopes Robinson can be a valuable part in the front court for the Owls this year.

The 6-5 Collins comes to Temple after after a solid senior year at Simon Gratz. He averaged 17.0 ppg and 9.8 rebounds in 26 games and was named to the first team Coaches All-Public League and All-Daily News.

Robinson, a 6-8 forward who signed with the Owls during the early signing period last year, averaged 6.0 ppg, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for the No. 3 ranked team in the nation.
