TEMPLE VOLLEYBALL OPENS THE SEASON WITH A 3-0 VICTORY

Orono, Maine -- The Temple volleyball team (1-0, 0-0) opened its season with a 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's (0-1, 0-0) in the opening match of the Sea-Sun Opener Invitational held at the University of Maine on August 30. The game scores were 30-20, 30-17, 30-21 as the Owls took control of the match from the opening volley. Junior outside hitter Xu Yun led Temple with a match-high 15 kills and 18 digs. Fellow junior Liu Shu added 14 kills and junior Margaret Majewska notched 10 kills in the win. Sophomore Alison Runk had a team-high 33 assists while senior teammate Solana Lee dished out 15 assists.

Saint Peter's, playing with just six players, got 11 kills from Tzvetomila Dotcheva while Alma Qose chipped in with 14 digs. Qose also led the squad in assists with 27.

The Sea-Sun Opener Invitational will continue on Saturday when Temple will face Ottawa at 11:30 a.m. Maine will follow with a match against Saint Peter's at 2:00 p.m., followed by Ottawa and Saint Peter's at 4:30 p.m. The Black Bears will close out the tournament with a match against the Owls at 7:00 p.m.
