TEMPLE TAKES SEA-SUN OPENER WITH BACK TO BACK WINS ON THE DAY

The Owls opened the day with a 3-0 win over Ottawa University. The game scores were 32-30, 30-18, 30-18 as Temple improved to 2-0 on the season. Junior Xu Yun, who led the Owls to victory on day one of the tournament was again impressive with 19 kills and 13 digs, and a spectacular .563 attack percentage. Sophomore Alison Runk dished out 49 assists in the win. Amanda Morgan, who recorded seven kills and five digs led Ottawa. Ellen Barwise added nine digs and 20 assists for Ottawa.
In Temple's second match of the day, the Owls topped Maine 3-0 to go undefeated for the tournament. The game scores were 30-16, 30-20 and 30-17 for Temple which was again led by Yun who tallied 12 kills and 11 digs. Yun was later named the tournament's most valuable player. Margaret Majewska had 10 kills while Liu Shu added 13 digs. Runk had 24 assists in the match.
Carmen Gabriel who recorded eight kills and eight digs led Maine. Setter Ashley Marble recorded a team-high 22 assists. Leah Guidinger chipped in with eight kills and seven digs.
After the tournament, the 2002 Sea-Sun Opener Invitational All-Tournament team was selected. Temple and Maine each had two players named to the team. The Owls were represented by Shu and Yun.
