TEMPLE DEFEATS ST. PETER'S AND WEST VIRGINIA 3-0 IN ROUND ONE OF VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University volleyball team (5-3 0-0 A-10) picked up two wins in the first round of the Temple Volleyball Classic today, September 13, 2002 when they defeated St. Peter's and West Virginia three games to one.

In Temple's first match against St. Peter's, Owls outside hitter Margaret Majewska led the Owls and posted a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Outside Hitter Liu Shu contributed 15 kills and four digs. Sophomore setter Alison Runk posted 25 assists. Setter Alma Qose led the way for St. Peter's with 20 assists.

In the Owl's second game against West Virginia, Temple was led by Majewska with 16 kills and seven digs and middle blocker Charity Hill with 11 kills and two digs. Runk contributed 26 assists, boosting her two game total to 51.

Temple is back in action tomorrow in day two of the Temple Volleyball Classic. Match times are as follows: Temple verses New Hampshire at 10:00 a.m., St. Peter's verses West Virginia at 12:00 p.m., St. Peter's verses Rutgers at 2:00 p.m. and Temple verses Rutgers at 4:00 p.m.
