OWLS UPSET NO.14 HOFSTRA 3-2 IN OVERTIME

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple defeated Hofstra the 14th ranked team in the nation 3-2 in overtime at Geasey Field.Melissa DeCesaris scored the game-winning goal with 4:22 remaining in overtime." Thank God, I was so tired I did not think I could move another step", said DeCesaris. The win raises the Owls' record to 1-4. The Owls maybe the best 1-4 team in the nation, with three of their four losses being to teams ranked in the top ten (#7 Penn State, #8 Iowa and #10 North Carolina).The loss drops the Pride's record to 5-1.

Temple scored the first two goals of the game. Freshman Melissa Fritze (Piscataway, NJ./Piscataway) scored her first career goal, junior Morgan Faria (South Dartmouth, Ma.) recorded her first of two assist in the game had an assist on the play.Susan Nase (Reading, Pa./Exter,Twp.) gave the Owls a 2-0 lead on her first goal of the season, junior Haley Dervinis (Larksville, Pa./ Wyoming Valley West) and senior co-captain Emily Moyer (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) earned assist on the play.

Hofstra tied the game at 2-2 on two-second half goals by Tara Byrne. Byrne scored an assisted (assisted by Shannon Wright) goal at 12:31 and an unassisted goal with 6:28 remaining. Hofstra's goalkeeper Christine Hickey had 10 saves.

Junior goalkeeper Erin Conroy was spectacular in goal posting 10 saves."I feel like this win is a stepping stone for this team.", said Dervinis, who recorded two assists in the contest.

The Owls (1-4) will next visit the defending the national champions third ranked Michigan on Friday,September 21.
