RICHMOND, VA-Temple (3-10, 1-2) posted its lowest point total in seven years in a 61-42 nationally televised loss at Richmond (8-5, 2-0) on Saturday, Jan. 11. The scoring output was the Owls poorest since a 59-35 loss to then No. 1-ranked Massachusetts at McGonigle Hall on February 1, 1996.

The lone highlight for Temple came with 4:44 remaining in the first half when junior guard David Hawkins hit a jumper to become the 39th Owl in the 107-year history of the program to reach to the 1,000-point plateau. Hawkins, who entered the game with 997 career points, scored 10 to pace the Cherry & White.

Temple's offense was non-existent in a first half that saw the visitors shoot just 23.1 percent (6-26) from the field. The Owls missed their first 12 attempts as Richmond established a 13-0 lead. An Antywane Robinson jump shot with 8:54 remaining in the opening stanza provided TU its first points, ending a scoring drought of over 11 minutes and making the score 13-2. Temple entered the locker room at the midpoint facing a 27-12 deficit.

Things did not improve for the Owls after the break. Richmond shot 50 percent (12-24) after halftime and finished the game with a 44.9 percentage (22-49) from the field. The Spiders deposited 12 three pointers (12-28) as the Owls managed only five (5-30) baskets from behind the arc.

A Tony Dobbins three-pointer with 2:36 remaining extended UR's lead to 55-34, giving the home team its largest lead of the contest. An Adrian Davidson layup in game's final seconds gave the Spiders a 61-42 advantage and closed out the scoring.

Jeff Myers led the Spiders in the scoring column with 19 points, 15 coming courtesy of five three-pointers.

Temple returns to the hardwood with a 6:30 p.m. contest versus city rival Saint Joseph's at the Liacouras Center on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
