Temple (3-10, 1-2) seeks a return to the win column in a 6:30 p.m. Atlantic 10 Conference city series showdown against Saint Joseph's (11-1, 3-0) at the Liacouras Center on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The Owls and Hawks are at the top of the leader board in outright or shared Philadelphia Big Five titles. Since the beginning of the city series in 1955, Temple has won or shared 22 crowns while Saint Joseph's has won or shared 17 titles.

Tuesday's contest will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet. It is one of 21 Temple games this season to be televised.

Prior to the game, a ceremony will take place establishing the John Chaney Endowed Scholarship Fund at Temple University. Former Owls and current NBA stars Aaron McKie and Eddie Jones have each agreed to contribute $250,000 to the fund. McKie will take part in the ceremony.

Temple is coming off a 61-42 nationally televised loss at Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a game in which the Owls shot 31 percent (18-58) and had just seven assists. The scoring output was TU's poorest since a 59-35 loss to then No. 1-ranked Massachusetts at McGonigle Hall on February 1, 1996. The lone highlight for Temple came with 4:44 remaining in the first half when junior guard David Hawkins became the 39th Owl in the 107-year history of the program to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Hawkins, who entered the game with 997 career points, scored 10 to pace Temple.

Saint Joseph's is coming off a 76-47 victory over UMass at home last Saturday. The Hawks shot 60.5 percent (26-43) from the field while the Minutemen committed 26 turnovers. Jameer Nelson leads SJU in the scoring column, averaging 19.1 points-per-game.

Temple and and Saint Joseph's have met 130 times in a series that dates back to 1901-02, with the Owls holding a 76-54 advantage in victories. The Owls defeated the Hawks 87-84 in double overtime at the Palestra on March 3, 2002 in the last meeting between the schools.
