MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO SNAP THREE-GAME SKID VERSUS FORDHAM AT THE LIACOURAS CENTER ON SATURDAY
1.17.03 | Men's Basketball
Saturday's contest will not be on television. It is one of only six games this season that is not scheduled to be televised.
Temple and Fordham are meeting for the 38th time in a series that dates back to 1932, with Temple holding a 28-9 advantage in victories, including 14 straight. Under John Chaney, the Owls have never lost to the Rams.
Temple is coming off a 65-55 loss to Saint Joseph's at the Liacouras Center last Tuesday that dropped the Owls to 0-3 in Philadelphia Big 5 action. Senior Alex Wesby led the Owls in the scoring column with 17 points, shooting seven of 13 from the field. Junior David Hawkins and freshman Maurice Collins each chipped in with 14 points. Hawkins also posted a career-high eight assists while committing just one turnover. The difference in the game proved to be SJU's backcourt duo of Jameer Nelson and Delonte West. The two combined for 51 points, 16 rebounds and 13 assists.
The loss to Saint Joseph's was TU's third straight Atlantic 10 loss, marking just the second time, since joining the Conference in 1983, that Temple has lost three consecutive league games. Temple has never lost four straight A-10 contests.
Fordham is coming off a 76-70 loss to Saint Bonaventure at home on Thursday, despite the fact that the Rams shot 51.9 percent (28-54) from the field. The Bonnies received 36 points off the bench to secure the win. Glenn Batemon and Jermaine Anderson each scored 18 points to pace Fordham in the scoring column. Junior Michael Haynes, who leads the Rams with a 15.8 ppg. average, did not play versus SBU due to a sprained foot and is doubtful for Saturday's contest against the Owls.
