FIELD HOCKEY HOSTS CROSS-TOWN FOE PENN AT 3:30 P.M. WITH A CHANCE TO TIE SCHOOL RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE SHUTOUTS

10.15.03 | Field Hockey

The Temple field hockey team (7-6, 2-0) hosts the Penn Quakers (6-4, 2-1) on Wednesday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. The Owls have won three straight games all by 1-0, decisions.

Temple goalie Erin Conroy is looking to extend her personal scoreless streak to four games and tie a school record currently shared by former goalies Robin Porter and Kim Lambdin-Ciarrocca. Porter had four consecutive shutouts during the 1983 season and Ciarrocca, who is currently the head coach of the Temple lacrosse team equaled the feat during the 1985 season.

Conroy has not allowed a goal in 218 minutes and the Owl defense has not allowed a goal in 222 minutes. The last goal scored on the Owl defense was at the 12 minute mark in a 3-2 home loss to Virginia Commonwealth on September 27.

Junior goalie Mary Beth Zakrzewski replaced Conroy the last four minutes of the VCU game recording two saves and not allowing a goal to contribute to the scoreless streak.

Last season Temple defeated Penn, 1-0 at Franklin Field on October 9.

The Owls will host a pair of local A-10 Conference opponents this weekend in La Salle on Saturday (Oct.18) and West Chester on Sunday (Oct.19, starting times for both games is noon.
