10.18.03 | Men's Basketball
"Morning Madness" actually begins for the Temple student body at midnight as the band, LGS, will take the stage adjacent to the Liacouras Center for a two-and-a-half-hour concert. During the concert, there will be a pig roast as well as promotional giveaways. Following the LGS concert, other entertainment will be provided for the students lining up overnight to purchase their student season tickets. At 5:30 a.m., the ticket windows at the Liacouras Center will open and fans can begin to purchase tickets and enter the arena to get their first official look at the 2003-04 Temple men's and women's basketball teams.
Hall of Fame head coach John Chaney's Owls return four starters from last year's men's team that overcame a 3-11 start to advance to the NIT quarterfinals. Senior David Hawkins, the Owls' leading scorer last year (16.9 ppg.), will look to provide leadership to a young team that features six impact newcomers.
With 11 returning letterwinners, head coach Dawn Staley will look to improve upon last year's 14-win season and take her team to the postseason for the third time in her four seasons at the helm of the women's program. The Owls' "Pair Jordan" backcourt of junior Cynthia Jordan and heralded freshman Britney Jordan (not related) are expected to lead the way.
The two teams will also host a pair of exhibition doubleheaders prior to the start of the season. The first will take place on Thursday, November 6 at McGonigle Hall.when both teams take on teams from Basketball Travelers. The women tip-off the doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. On November 14, the women take on Team Concept 6:00 p.m.)with the men's team facing Double Pump at 8:00 p.m. That doubleheader will be played at the Liacouras Center.
