FIELD HOCKEY CLINCHES A-10 BERTH WITH 6-5 OVERTIME WIN OVER WEST CHESTER

PHILADELPHIA -- The Owls' Lindsay Holman and Monica Jiao had two goals each and Talia Ruth added two assists as the Owls clinched a postseason berth for the first time in three seasons with a spectacular 6-5 overtime comeback victory over West Chester on Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field.

The Owls' Katie Stevenson scored an unassisted game-winner for the second straight game this time in overtime with 11:31 remaining to keep Temple undefeated in the A-10. Temple, who has won four of its last five games had to overcome an early two goal deficit in the first four minutes of play.

West Chester's Megan Glieimi led the Rams with two goals and Caleen Owens contributed a goal and two assists in the loss.

The win improves the Owls' record to 9-7, 4-0 in the A-10 while, the Rams fell to 3-10 and 0-3 in A-10 play.

The Rams' Glieimi and Owens opened the scoring with two goals in the first four minutes sending the Owls reeling. Temple's Holman temporarily stopped West Chester's momentum scoring a goal closing the gap to 2-1 with 18:44 left in the first half.

The Rams' Kendra Wood followed with goal off an pass from Liz Morrow to give West Chester a 3-1 lead at the 12 minute mark. Holman and Andrea Duva scored the next two goals to tie the score at 3-3 with 7:21 remaining in the first half.

West Chester's Jenna Frankfield scored an unassisted goal with 12 seconds left in the half to regain the lead 4-3 at the half.

The Owls' Jiao scored a pair of second-half goals, the first goal at the 31:23 mark and the second with 3:02 remaining in the game giving Temple the lead for the first time 5-4.

However the Rams' Gliemi responded with the game tying goal with 1:24 left to send the game into overtime deadlocked at 5-5.

Stevenson scored the winner four minutes into overtime when her shot deflected off a West Chester defender to ruin the Rams' upset bid.

The Owls goalie Erin Conroy had seven saves and West Chester keeper Carrie Hanshue had 16 saves in the contest.

Temple out-shot the Rams 32-12 and held a 20-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The Owls will visit nationally ranked and A-10 co-leader Richmond on Friday, October 24 at noon.
