TEMPLE FIELD HOCKEY TAMES GEORGETOWN HOYAS, 3-1

Washington, D.C.- The Temple field hockey team defeated Georgetown, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Kehoe Field.

Monica Jiao scored the game-winner in the 42nd minute to give the Owls double figures in wins for the first time in three seasons. The win improves Temple's record to 10-8 overall (4-1 in A-10), while the Hoyas fall to 5-12 overall.

Georgetown sophomore Jessica Quinn began the scoring early in the match with a goal five minutes into the game on a drive from the left side. The goal is Quinn's 13th of the season, and she currently leads all Georgetown scorers with 25 points.

Temple responded in the 15th minute with a penalty stroke goal by senior Haley Dervinis to tie the score at 1-1 at halftime.

Early into the second half, Georgetown had a penalty stroke opportunity of its own, but the shot by senior captain Lauren Galbally hit the left post.

Jiao and Rachel Barber sealed the win for Temple with a pair of second half goals. Jiao's winner was assisted by Andrea Duva at the 42 minute mark, while Barber picked up a rebounded shot to score unassisted in the 60th minute.

Georgetown Abby Winer posted two saves in over one period of work, and was replaced midway through the second half by Caitlyn Faller, who allowed one goal and picked up one save.

Temple goalkeeper Mary Zakrzewski, starting her first game of the season, posted six saves and earned her first win of the season.

Temple out-shot Georgetown, 21-10, and held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The Owls will next visit Lehigh in a non-conference game on Wednesday, October 28 at 3 p.m.
