10.5.03 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA -- Sophomore forward Caitlyn Bowers scored her first goal of the season off a pass from freshman Monica Jiao at the 20:44 mark of the first half to lead the Temple Owls to a 1-0 win over visiting Fairfield on Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Owls, and upped their record to 5-6 on the season. Fairfield dropped its season mark to 4-8.
Temple dominated play throughout the contest, owning a 15-1 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in penalty corners. The Owls put nine shots on cage, but Fairfield goalie Lauren Thomas (eight saves) was up to the challenge.
Junior goalkeeper Erin Conroy recorded her first shutout of the season, although she did not have to make a save on the day.
Today's contest also pitted sister against sister as Temple's Jillian Thomas squared off against her older sister, Lauren, the Stag goalkeeper. Jillian attempted one shot on her sister during the game, but her sibling was able to make the save.
The Owls will next play at Massachusetts in its Atlantic 10 Conference opener on Friday, October 10.
