12.11.03 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University Athletic Department has teamed up with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank and the Philadelphia Big 5 in an effort to slam dunk hunger in the Philadelphia area. The Owls will help to slam dunk hunger as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. when the Temple Women's Basketball team takes on Kentucky, while the Temple Men's Basketball team battles Penn State at 5 p.m. The partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank continues on Monday, December 15 at 7 p.m. when Hall of Fame Coach John Chaney and the Owls square off against South Carolina. All fans that bring a canned or non-perishable food item for collection at the Liacouras Center on the day of the game will receive a reserved ticket for just $6 to catch the Owls in action.

"This is a great opportunity for our fans to support such a worthwhile organization as the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank," said Bill Bradshaw, Temple's Director of Athletics. "Plus, although we are obviously encouraging all patrons who already have tickets to bring food items, it is a way for college basketball fans across the Philadelphia area to check out great games for as low as $6."

Over the past two seasons, the Slam Dunk Hunger campaign has brought in more than 12,500 pounds of food to help feed the needy in the area. The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank distributes food donations to nearly 800 local non-profit organizations to fight hunger and feed approximately 57,000 people each week through Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. This marks the fifth year that Temple Athletics has partnered with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank.

Tickets for Temple Basketball at $10, $15, $20, $26 and $35 are available at the Liacouras Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling Ticketmaster at (215) 336-2000, (856) 338-9000 or (302) 984-2000. Temple Basketball offers a family four-pack, which includes four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $40. For information about special group discounts, patrons may call 215-204-6710 or 215-389-9543.
