PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University men's basketball team faces a tough test in Southeastern Conference member South Carolina on Monday evening, December 15. The Gamecocks, coached by Dave Odom, come into the tilt with a perfect 8-0 record while the Owls are fresh off a 67-56 win over Penn State on Saturday evening at the Liacouras Center.

South Carolina, which has not played since a 76-61 win over in-state rival Clemson on December 6, features a balanced scoring attack led by 6-7 junior forward Carlos Powell (14.9 ppg., 8.1 rpg.). Also topping double figures for the Gamecocks are 6-6 sophomore guard Tarence Kinsey (13.5 ppg.) and 6-2 junior guard Josh Gonner (10.3 ppg.). Two seniors, Mike Boynton (8.8 ppg., 4.0 apg.) and Ivan Howell, will attend afternoon graduation ceremonies (3:30 p.m.) in Columbia, SC and fly to Philadelphia afterwards for the contest.

Senior guard David Hawkins continues to lead Temple and ranks second in the A-10 with a 21.3 scoring average. Sophomore guard Mardy Collins is the only other Owl topping double figures in scoring (14.7 ppg.) while sophomore center Keith Butler leads TU in rebounding (5.8 rpg.) and blocks (17).

With the loss of sophomore forward Antywane Robinson to an ankle injury at Arizona State, Hall of Fame coach John Chaney went with a four guard attack against Penn State on Saturday. Expect the same against USC as Robinson is expected to miss three-to-four weeks with the ankle sprain.

South Carolina won last year's meeting, 66-47, in Columbia, SC and leads the series, 7-4.
