12.29.03 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's basketball team received good and bad news with the end of the fall semester. Sophomore Micheal Blackshear was reinstated on the team by head coach John Chaney while freshman Mario Taybron failed to meet the NCAA's academic standards and will not be eligible to compete in intercollegiate athletics during the spring semester.
Blackshear, a 6-6 forward out of Philadelphia's Simon Gratz High, averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Cherry and White before being suspended by Chaney on December 3. Taybron, a 6-3 guard out of Ryan Academy in Hampton, Va. native, had started six of Temple's eight games, averaging 4.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. He also was tied for the team lead in assists with 21 while ranking second in steals with 19.
Temple (3-5), in the middle of a two-week break, will next take the court on Saturday, January 3 at Indiana (Noon/ESPN2/WPHT 1210 AM).
