FORMER TEMPLE STAR LYNN GREER SIGNS WITH GREENVILLE
2.28.03 | Men's Basketball
Greer, a 6-2, 180-guard, played for the Owls from 1997-2002, missing most of the 1998-99 season due to a right eye injury (broken orbital bone). After playing with the Dallas Mavericks summer league team in the 2002 Rocky Mountain Revue, Greer's most recent experience has been playing for Near East in Greece.
The crafty lefthander departed North Broad Street and the City of Philadelphia as the second leading scorer in Temple history. Greer scored 2,099 points but might best be remembered for the three foul shots he converted in the 2001 Atlantic 10 Conference semi-final game against George Washington, when the Owls snatched victory from defeat and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts in the championship game.
After sitting out most of the 1998-99 season, Greer came back to win the Atlantic 10 Conference Sixth Man of the Year Award, averaging 12.3 points per game.
The 2000-01 season was a breakout year for Greer, highlighted by the game winning free throws against George Washington with just 2.9 seconds left and the Owls down by two.
The 2001-02 season was one for the record books as Greer broke numerous Temple marks. He stretched his double-digit scoring mark to 36 consecutive games and scored 40 or more points twice during the season. His 47-point effort at Wisconsin was dubbed by radio color analyst John Baum as "the greatest individual offensive effort I ever witnessed."
Greer joins former Temple teammate and friend, Kevin Lyde, on the Groove roster.
