The Temple field hockey team had 11 members named to the Division I All-Academic Team from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Freshmen Rachel Barber (Millville, NJ. /Millville) Lindsey Walker (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Dannon Mehaffey (Bridgeton, NJ./Cumberland Regional), sophomores Kelly Walsh (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) Ashley Shepps (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), Andrea Duva (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville), Haley Dervinis (Larksville, Pa. /Wyoming Valley West), and Regina Roddy (Collingswood, NJ./Collingswood) and seniors Virginia Gonzalez (Reading, Pa./Twin Valley), and Emily Moyer (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin).
Melissa DeCesaris (Shavertown, Pa. /Lake Lehman) earned a spot on the 2002 Mid Atlantic Region STX/NFHCA Division I second team. DeCesaris, a junior led the Owls in goals (eight), points (19), shots (61), game-winning goals (eight) and defensive saves (eight). She also had three assists and started all 19.
Dervinis and Gonzalez were named to the 2002 All-Philadelphia Field Hockey Team. The All- Philadelphia team is an effort to increase recognition of the talent and the competitiveness of the field hockey players and programs in Philadelphia.
Dervinis, a junior midfielder started all 19 games this season recorded 13 points (1 goal and 11 assist). She led the Owls in assist with 11 and was the third leading scorer on the team with (one goal and 11 assists) 13 points. Gonzalez, a senior back started all 18 games in which she appeared. She had five points on the season (two goals and one assist) and was second on the team with two game-winning goals this season.
