FIELD HOCKEY:OWLS PREDICTED TO PLACE THIRD IN ATLANTIC 10

8.22.03 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA, PA.-- The Temple field hockey team was predicted to place third in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season by the Atlantic 10 head coaches. The Owls finished last season with an overall record of 9-10 and a conference record of 2-3 placing fifth, narrowly missing the A-10 Conference Tournament.

A third place finish would qualify the Owls for the postseason; the first four teams make the 2003 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship which is scheduled for November 7-8 at Saint Joseph's University. However the host must qualify for the postseason or the championship is moved to the home of the highest seeded team.

Temple returns Melissa DeCesaris (Shavertown, Pa. /Lake-Lehman), Haley Dervinis (Larksville, Pa. /Wyoming Valley West) and Erin Conroy (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach). DeCesaris, a senior was fourth in the conference in scoring (19), third in goals (8), led the conference in game-winning-goals (4) and shots (64). Dervinis, a senior was the second in the conference in assists with 11. Conroy, a junior was third in the conference in goalkeeping with a 2.06 goals against average.

The Owls open the 2003 campaign on Saturday, August 30 at noon against Davidson at Geasey Field, the first of a six-game home stand.
