FIELD HOCKEY EDGES MAINE, 2-1, WITH GOAL IN FINAL MINUTE OF PLAY

Maine held Temple without a shot on goal in a scoreless first half. The Bears' Karyn Magno opened the scoring with 19:59 to play off a penalty corner with assists from Amie Dubois and Emily Dooling.
Dervinis tied the score with a goal assisted by senior Rachel Kasper at the 4:56 mark of the second half. The game look like it was destined for overtime until Jiao scored the winner off an assist from Dervinis.
Temple's goalkeeper Erin Conroy had 10 saves to raise her record to 2-0. Maine's keeper Jaye Lance had five saves. Temple held a slight advantage in shots, 14-12, and Maine had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The Owls will host Providence on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in The Temple Invitational Tournament.
National power North Carolina will take on Michigan State at 1:30 p.m. in the second game of the tournament
The consolation and championship games will be played on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
