STRONG COMPETITION TO TAKE PART IN TEMPLE FIELD HOCKEY INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, September 6, Temple, off to a 2-0 start, will play Providence (1-0) in the tournament's opener at 11:00 a.m. In the second game, Michigan State (1-0), fresh off a 2002 Final Four appearance, will take on North Carolina (2-0), which opened its season with impressive wins over Michigan and Iowa in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. That game will commence at 1:30 p.m.
The consolation and championship will take place on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
The tournament also features the return of former owl coach Michele Madison, now in her 11th year at the helm of the MSU field hockey program. Madison spent four years at Temple prior to moving to East Lansing. While in Philadelphia, Madison was instrumental in beginning
the Temple Invitational. At Temple (1989-92, she compiled a record of 56-28-6 (.656), leading the Owls to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Notes:Temple's Haley Dervinis is fourth on the Owls' all-time assists list with 33. She needs five to move into the third place.
Temple is 2-1 all-time against
Michigan State.
Temple is 2-10-1 in the all-time series with North Carolina.
North Carolina has won nine of the last 10 Temple Field Hockey Invitationals.The Tar Heels streak of nine straight titles were broken last season by Louisville (3-2,OT) in the opening round of the tournament.
North Carolina holds a 3-0, advantage in the all-time series against Michigan State.
Michigan State ended last season ranked number four in the nation.
