FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO NORTH CAROLINA, 6-1, IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF TEMPLE INVITATIONAL

UNC's Rachel Dawson tallied three goals while Kelsey Keeran added two goals and Lauren Douglass dished three assists to help the Tar Heels to their 10th Temple Invitational title in 11 years.
The win keeps North Carolina undefeated at 4-0 as the Owls dropped their first game of the season. The Tar Heels are a projected to be ranked in the top five in the first national poll which is set to be released on Tuesday.
UNC broke out to a three-goal lead on Keeran's two first half goals and Dawson's first of three tallies in the contest. The Tar Heels never looked back.
Temple sophomore Rachel Barber scored on an assist from senior Haley Dervinis with 40 seconds left in the first half to cut Tar Heels' lead to 3-1 at the intermission.
In the second half Dawson added two more goals and Katy Potter contributed an unassisted goal to complete the scoring on the day.
Owls' goalkeeper Erin Conroy had 22 saves and loss her first game of the season. North Carolina's keeper Katy Tran had four saves in the contest.
In the consolation game Michigan State (2-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season by defeating Providence (1-2), 9-1. Senior Alexander Kyser had two goals and Ashley Pernicano added a goal and an assist as the Spartans erupted for five first half goals.
The Friars lone goal, the last of the contest, was scored by senior Stephanie Suehnolz with 12:00 minutes left in the game.
The Owls will host another national power, Penn State, on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) at Geasey Field.
