MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO GIVE COACH #700 AT THE LIACOURAS CENTER AGAINST ST. BONNIES
1.28.04 | Men's Basketball
The game will feature two of the nation's top 10 scorers in Norristown, PA native Marques Green of St. Bonaventure and Temple's David Hawkins. Green, a 5-7 senior guard, boasts a 23.4 scoring average good for fifth best in the nation. Hawkins, who has tallied 10 straight games over 20 points - the longest such streak in the Chaney Era, is just one point behind Green, averaging 23.3 points (7th nationally).
Under first year head coach Anthony Solomon, the Bonnies are in second place in the Atlantic 10 East Division, posting wins over UMass and Rhode Island for a 2-3 league mark. The Owls(1-4), on the other hand, are a full game behind the Bonnies and tied for fourth place in the standings.
Temple owns a 41-6 lead in the series and has won three straight and six of the last seven meetings. The Owls, a perfect 22-0 at home against the Bonnies, will need more than Hawkins' one-man show to garner #700 for "Coach." Look for sophomore Mardy Collins to step up as he has offensively of late. Collins, who had been mired in a shooting slump, has averaged 16 points per game over the last four games.
