PHILADELPHIA - Liz Lorelli tallied two unassisted goals and assisted on a third to lead the Penn field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Temple in a Wednesday night contest at historic Franklin Field. The win improves the Quakers' record to 8-4 overall while the Owls fall to 6-7.
The loss was the Owls' first to a team not ranked in the Top 20. The othe six Temple losses have been to ranked opponents (Delaware, Penn State, Maine, Iowa, Richmond and American).
Lorelli opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 1:48 into the game. Lea Salese added a goal off a feed from Sara Shelley in the 10th minute. Lorelli added her second goal of the game in the 23 minute giving the Quakers a 3-0 lead at the half.
Tracey Statter added a second half goal off an assist from Lorelli to complete the scoring in the game.
Temple goalie Erin Conroy had three saves.
Penn net minder Liz Schossberg did not register a save in 43 minutes, while Amanda Jacobs posted three saves in 26 minutes of action.
The Quakers out-shot the Owls, 11-5, and held an 8-4, advantage in penalty corners.
Temple will host a pair of key A-10 games this weekend. The Owls will host UMass on Saturday (Oct. 16) and will play their final home game of the season on Sunday (Oct.17) against Rhode Island. Both games are scheduled for a noon start.
