PHILADELPHIA- Sophomore Lindsay Holman's goal with just over one minute remaining in the first overtime lifted the Temple field hockey team to a 2-1 win over La Salle 2-1 Saturday afternoon in a key A-10 battle at the Explorers' DeVincent Field. The win improves the Owls' record to 8-9, and more importantly 2-2 in the A-10 Conference. The Explorers fall to 5-10, 1-3 in the A-10.
Temple junior Melissa Fritze opened the scoring on a tip-in off a feed from junior Katie Stevenson at the 26th minute mark.
La Salle's Allison Geiger tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal with 16:45 remaining in the first half. That would acount for all of the scoring through regulation.
Holman scored the game-winner on a follow up shot after a penalty corner attempt, junior Jillian Thomas was credited with an assist on the play with just 1:01 remaining in the first overtime.
Temple goalie Erin Conroy had four saves in 83 minutes of action while La Salle keeper Colleen Bolger also posted four saves.
The Owls out-shot the Explorers,12-6 while holding a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Temple will visit West Chester tomorrow (Oct.24) at noon. A win against the Rams will place the Owls in a good position to earn a postseason A-10 berth.
